Sheer Delight
The original painting measured 36 x 42 cm. And was painted in Mixed media
This little girl is from Saint Lilian Academy in Kikuyu near Nairobi, Kenya. We visited this school on our trip to Kenya in 2009. Profit made from the sale of this painting will go to this school. The year before, whilst Lyn was in Kenya, she had met some of the children and the school founder, Lucy , on their once a year outing to Sheldrick’s Wildlife Trust in Nairobi. Lyn, Peta and myself decided that on our next trip to Africa, we would visit the school and take over any donations of useful items and money we could raise in the meantime. This is a painting that shows the delight on a young pupil’s face as the school headmaster demonstrated the use of the skipping ropes we had donated (along with the soccer balls), after the rest of the donated money had been spent on the school textbooks and supplies the school had requested.
Lucy Muthoni had started this Nursery, Pre-School and Primary School with just 3 pre-schoolers. Now she has over 400 students and 25 teachers as well as 30 orphans the school personally supports and educates. They have a high proportion of girl students which they encourage. The students work extremely hard, in what we would describe as difficult circumstances, and the school Headmaster (photographed above), is extremely proud of the results they achieve as the standard required for entry into High School is high due to the fact that there are limited spaces available in Public schools.
Original is sold. Available as a print size A3 and A4 and also as a card.
