Venice seems like a place where the past has more meaning than the present. Though subject to a constant stream of visitors, it has an atmosphere like no other with beautiful Byzantine, Renaissance and Baroque buildings set amongst bustling canals.

Through this archway, you glimpse three of Venice’s most important historical sites – the Basilica, the Campanile and the Doge’s Palace. With it’s open air cafés, orchestras and elegant boutiques, the Piazza is normally flooded by tourists, pigeons and sometimes water. I have shown it in a more romantic light

To make this mask, I used fabric, braid, gold liner and cern relief. The white fabric is placed as a flat pattern and painted with the detail and colours of the mask. The background scene is both acrylic paint and pastel, the skin is pastel, and the clothes are painted fabric and lace.

Original painting is sold. Available as a Limited Edition Print
