Joni Mitchell’s Parking Lot

This was painted in mixed media, oils and acrylic and measured 46 x 61 cms.

This painting portrays a simple conservation message inspired by Joni Mitchell’s ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ song. The lyrics “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” and, “they paved paradise and put up a parking lot”, seemed even more real to me after talking with some friends who had ‘visited’ the Gorillas in Africa.The Gorilla is a universally recognizable endangered species, that also bears a close relationship to our own and I wanted to make a direct personal appeal that both implicates and implores us.
