Bridge of Sighs
the original painting measured 50 x 62 cms. and was painted in mixed media
This bridge was built in C17th to connect the Doge’s Palace with the prison on the other side of the canal. Hence, the name of the bridge, as the prisoners would ‘sigh’ as they caught their last glimpse of the outside world through the patterned stone windows. This was the prison from which the famous Casonova escaped.
Feathers, braid, beads, fabric, gold liner and paint were used to make this mask. The background scene is both acrylic paint and pastel, the skin is pastel and the clothes painted fabric. The feathers were sealed with medium and painted over with acrylic paint
